For last week's word list, the only challenges were those to my own words. See the comments for further details.

The results are as follows:
Heather: 12
Páudraig: 31
Mike: 36
Ben: 107

I double-checked the score. I have it in excel if anyone wants to check it for themselves.
_____

Due to the unavailability of the previously mentioned Online Scrabble Dictionary, I am ceasing its use effective this round. I will refer any/all challenges to www.dictionary.com. Words marked as Slang, Proper, Foreign, or Abbreviation will not be allowed.

Example: "Perp" - listed as police slang

Refer questions to me. ^_^
_____

This week's Boggle Puzzle. Please submit word lists no later than 11:59pm, Monday, July 13th.
I should have the lists up shortly thereafter. (anyone with a LJ account, simply post a comment with your list).
I will allow challenges until 7:00pm Tuesday, July 14th.
Scores and the following week's board will be up Tuesday night.

Boggle

There were no challenges to last week's word lists.

The scores for last week's board are as follows:
Heather: 5
Mike: 75
Ben: 82
_____

FOR THIS WEEK:

Standard Scoring Applies (See Previous Week's Post)

Word lists to me by 11:59pm on Monday, July 6th.
Challenges by 7:00pm Tuesday, July 7th.
- I've given it some thought, and I'm thinking I will refer all challenges to the Hasbro Online Scrabble Dictionary (http://www.hasbro.com/scrabble/en_US/search.cfm). This should knock out proper nouns, abbreviations, foreign words, and other "disalloweds". Also, any player can look up the results from their own computer (rather than me using an obscure dictionary). As always, I'm open to suggestions.

Good Luck, and Happy Boggle-ing!

BOGGLE

Ok, so I win by default? :-\

I'm putting up the new word set tonight. Yeah, I know I said I'd do it Monday, but it's on my mind now, and I have the time.

Same Rules Apply:
-5x5 Boggle = minimum 4 letter word size
-Scoring as follows:
4 letters = 1 point
5 letters = 2 points
6 letters = 3 points
7 letters = 5 points
8+ letters = 11 points

Due to suggestion, I'm changing the timetables around a little bit.

I'd like lists no later than 11:59pm Monday night. I will watch the board until 7:00pm Tuesday for any disputes that may arise. After that point, I will score the round. The new board will up no later than Wednesday evening; the scores from a round will be at the top of the next week's post.

Hopefully that makes sense. I'm open to suggestions.

In any case, here's the list:

BOGGLE REBORN

So, I've been saying I'm going to do it for a while. But I finally got of my ass and did it.

See below, for the first puzzle in this re-start of BOGGLE weekly.

Rules are easy:

Responses due at 12:00 am (midnight) Sunday morning. Post word list as reply to puzzle post.

a 5x5 grid smallest word size is four letters.

Scoring based on word size for the words only you found, and as below:
4 letter = 1 point
5 letter = 2 points
6 letter = 3 points
7 letter = 5 points
8+ letters = 11 points

I'll put new posts up on Monday evenings (hopefully). They should go up by around 6-8pm.

So Sad...

Went with my Dad to put down our dog Chance today. I want to think it was for the better: he wasn't walking well; had a difficult time sitting--it was more like "plopping" in place; hearing was practically gone; sight was going; started having accidents. But it's still sad. A best friend of 10 years (the dog was a pound puppy: the pound (and Vet) both thought he was 5-6 when we got him).

I think the worst part--the absolute worst part--was going with my Dad to have it done. I've only seen him cry three times: once when my Great-Grandfather passed, once when my Great-Grandmother passed, and today.

What a way to start the day... :-(

An update

I've been thinking, this journal becomes less and less a priority as the days go by. Ever since I got out of school, I post less and less. I don't know...

But, here's the most recent update...

This week has been not fun for me at all: I've been as sick as ever, and missed most of the week's worth of work. The doc says it's the flu, but I can't remember the flu being this bad. *sigh* My weekend plans are shot, because even though I'm feeling better today, I'm not doing anything to make sure that I'm up and running again on Monday. I'm going to have a lot of catching up to do this week, assuming I make it back to work...

That, was the bad news.

Now, comes the good news...

After talking it over with both of our parents, Heather and I are pushing up the wedding. :-) About a week and a half ago, we decided to get married this July, rather than wait until May next year. Here's the cool part: she already has a dress, cake, bridemaid dresses, location, and most of the big stuff that's supposed to be a hassle. We're making the favors and centerpieces ourselves in an attempt to keep some costs down.

It's going to be an outdoor wedding at Mercer County Park. The upper floor of the Boathouse on the south-shore has a small party-room and deck that the reception is going to be in. The ceremony itself is going to be outside. There's a wide jetty that's probably 200 feet long, and at the end of it is a gazebo. So there will be water on three sides.

It's a great feeling, it really is :-)

Holy Sheet...

Well folks, you're not going to believe this, but it's really been forever this time. I mean, seriously, with a post in September, and now, it's February? I'd bet some of you would think I've dropped off the face of the planet, or something like that. But you're WRONG! :-P

Ben, is BACK!!! Woohoo!!

Make a long story short:

Wasn't online much once I started with the water company, and when I started going out with Heather I dropped off the face of the internet. Having someone so close was new to me, so we were spending a lot of time together.

Come December, I ended up getting into a fight with my mother, and things escalated to me leaving. So in mid-December I moved out, to live at Heather's for a while. No internet access there. Er, scratch that: dial-up there, on the only phone line. So my internet time was really reduced to simply checking and responding to email at work. Yick. And the firewall prevented me from coming here to update and read.

Finally, at the end of January I got out of her parents' house, and am now in my own apartment. And now online. So people will be seeing more of me, online at least.

Ok, I've got updating to do to the comp. Later all!!

Sooooo....

It's been forever, and I mean that quite nearly-literally since the last time I posted.

And too much has happened to go through it in detail.

Working with Aqua. And I just went on a shopping spree. 27 cases worth. 324 cans. I figure it'll last me a little while. I'll go do it again in a month or so. If you want a case, all you have to do is come visit :-P Well, maybe not. It's mine. My precious.
Sooo...

Seems to be my favorite way of starting a post, no? :-P

I start work on Monday. HR called me yesterday with the formal employment offer. I'll hold the position of "engineer" and will be located in Hamilton. woot! I was even told what my salary will be. I'll be honest, it was more than I expected. O:-) So, now all I do is finish this week with Kohl's, and then I'll be on hold working with them until I get settled into the job. :-D

Speaking of Kohl's, this week of work is overnights. I volunteered to do a "special task" of changing the lights in the store. There's four of us, and 4,000 of them. :-P It was supposed to be a two-week deal, but since I'm starting with Aqua on Monday, I'm out. Luckily, when I volunteered for the job, I explained to the manager that I may be dropping off the schedule, so when I told him he completely understood.

Things with Heather are going great. Went down to LBI on Saturday to some motel to watch a band that she likes play. They're pretty good. I almost feel like a traitor though, because they're a rival band of Lifespeed. :-P *shrug* Otherwise, we hang out when we can. She came over yesterday morning, because we had both worked overnight the night before. Spent most of the day together, until I had to get to bed and sleep. It'll rock once I start with Aqua. 8am to 430pm Monday thru Friday. Weekends off. Hardly any overtime. :-D And, since her house is on the way both to and </i>from</i> work, I think we'll get to see each other even more. Of course, she's up for a supervisor position at Kohl's, so we'll have schedule-matching to do. Heh, it's so nice having someone so close to home. O:-)

Sooooo...

It's been a busy couple of weeks.

Mostly working: they've been adding extra trucks, which is good because it's been adding hours to my schedule. Which is bad because they've been adding hours to my schedule. I haven't had a day off since last Sunday, and even though it's a part time job, it's kind of exhausting. (and it's tearing up my hands: my fingers are dry and split, and I can't get it to change b/c I can't give them a break from work) Blah.

I really don't remember much of what I did since I last updated.

I feel like I've been getting jerked around by Aqua New Jersey, because for the last 3 weeks, every time I've been told "We'll contact you by the end of the week" I've been calling them back the following Monday saying "What's going on?" Last week I finally seemed to be getting somewhere: HR from a parent company office in PA (Aqua America) called, saying that they should make a decision, and would call me Thursday. No phone call Thursday. So I call back on Friday. The woman apologized for not calling, saying she had to call out sick on Thursday, but she would get back to me later. Friday afternoon while at work I get a voice mail. Turns out she couldn't tell me what was going on because the guy that she had to talk to was out of work due to a medical issue. Grr. But she'd call back on Monday. So today, I had to go in early. During my lunch break I decided to check my phone, and saw there was a voicemail. It's the lady from HR. (I liked this lady: she was the only person to say "I'll call you" that actually did). So she calls me and starts talking. Apologizes for the decision making process to have taken so long, realizes I'm anxious, etc.. She gets to the point. "We've decided to go ahead and procede with you as our candidate for the job."
O_o o_O *listened to message again just to be sure she said what I thought she said*
:-D :-D :-D :-D
Woot! An engineer will I be! Woot!

Been dating Heather, and most of you met her at Kris' place. It's been a little over a month now, and things have been going great. But we decided not to date anymore. I stress date. No, instead we're going to be going out now. O:-) Ben has a girlfriend O:-)

It'll be really tough to make this summer get much better...

I am a Defender-ship." />I am a Defender-ship.

I am fiercely protective of my friends and loved ones, and unforgiving of any who would hurt them. Speed and foresight are my strengths, at the cost of a little clumsiness. I'm most comfortable with a few friends, but sometimes particularly enjoy spending time in larger groups. What Video Game Character Are You?

Interesting

I finally see something different about my application with the FBI. The site where I can check on my application says this. "Position Status: Vacancy Filled" I don't think I was really expecting to get it anyway...

Called Aqua-New Jersey this morning. It's been two weeks since the interview, with no word from them. I was relayed a message from the gent' that interviewed me (I ended up speaking to some woman in the office). "He has not yet had a chance to down-select any candidates, but you should definately hear from us by the latter part of the week." Please please please be a positive answer. I want this job so badly.
A) Now that it's July, I have to start paying loans back *yuck*
B) It's close to home, which would allow me to live home and start saving mulah (I would hope)

There's another reason why being able to stay around the area would be nice. O:-) I think she'd like it too. Ended up getting off work early Saturday night, so went to hang with her for a while. Went late-night swimming at one of her friend's house, and then we went to a diner for some early morning chow. Was a good night.

Sunday, went over to her place before noon, and brought her back here. Played some NES and made sure that some of my favorite cartridges still work. *cough*FinalFantasy*cough*DragonWarrior*cough* O:-) Then blew through MegaManII. Beat the game, and in classic Ben-style turned to her, offered her the controller, and said, "See? It's not that hard. Now you do it." :-P O:-) Put away the NES, then played Dr.Mario on the 64 for a couple of hours. Got bored, and tried watching The Boondock Saints. Failed, and fell asleep. Woke up to the sound of the tape ejecting, went upstairs for food and drink, then came back down here to watch The Goonies. Made it through the movie, laughing and comparing movies from then to movies now. Was a good night.

Monday, went to Steve's 4th of July party. And she came with. Actually, before I go any further, I'm sick of using pronouns. Heather, her name is Heather. :-D So she came with. And got to meet Steve, Mike, and Lomberk. Just sat around Steve's place most of the afternoon BSing and, after Heather decided she had a bit too much sun, went inside to watch TV and sit in the shade of the house. :-P Left kinda early, but had to get my father's car back to him for work last night. Didn't matter: things were dying down anyway. Scott left and Steve was chilling with his ShopRite crew. But it was a good day anyway.

So keep the fingers crossed for me about the job-thing...

Soooo........

One date has turned into a couple of dates, and a couple of dates is going to turn into more dates. I think it's safe to say, I'm now dating her. O:-)

And, she keeps getting cooler and cooler. Went over to her house today to spend some time with her before work. While we were standing around (she was getting some food for her brother for lunch), one of her loads of laundry finished. So she takes it out and starts folding it. Tassels on something were on everything, so I was going through the pile pulling out the strays. And saw some of the coolest shirts. The green 1-Up shirt. A Bullet-Bill shirt. A Nintendo logo shirt. Turns out she's got a bunch of the Nintendo shirts (the ones that Hot Topic always has). I'm sitting there thinking this is too cool. Then, she says, "While we're thinking of Nintendo, you said yours doesn't work because your missing a cable, right?" Um, yeah. "Was it this one?" *shows me an A/V cable* Um, yeah. "Here. I don't need it for anything." Rock on! And then we procede to sit down and play some Gamecube. I think I'm going to become a Donkey Konga addict. It's so simplistically fun. And, now she hates me, because I'm better at it than she is after only playing it for 10 minutes O:-) Damn me and my video-gaming skillz. I guess what really sums it up is this: She's a gamer!!!!!. Not as bad as me, or any of my friends for that matter, but she understands how easy it is to become addicted. :-D Lol

She even stopped by to say hi during work today. :-D Good day. Good week. June turned out to be a good month, too. :-P

Heh, it's been a good week.

No, scratch that, a great week.

Yeah, the interview was all nice and good, but the best part of the week didn't happen until later...

I went on my first real date on Thursday. Nothing fancy, just went to Applebee's after we got out of work 1.5 hours early. I work with her O:-) I surprised myself by asking though: she was "mad" at me for being [too much of] a wiseass earlier in the night. I did apologize, but she said something along the lines of "I don't know about that; I think you have to prove it." So I was there thinking I don't know you that well, how am I going to be able to prove it to you? And five minutes later, my response was "Could I prove it by taking you out after we get off tonight?"

:-D

O:-)

Soooooo......

The interview was today instead of yesterday. *shrug* Though I wouldn't have called it an interview, really. And not because it didn't go well, but quite the opposite. Instead of being asked a multitude of questions, the gentleman instead described to me what the company does, where they do it, and just tried to give a general description of the position I'd be going into. He did make it a point to make sure I know that the position isn't really a ChE position, but moreso a CivE position. Meaning that it's not really reactors and chemical plants, though on the occassion where a chemical process is involved, I may end up supervising that project. Oh, by mostly CivE work, he described that about 70-ish percent of the work involved is replacing water mains and the such. There's travel involved, but mostly in NJ, and mostly day trips. For example, he was up in Sussex county doing work yesterday at a new housing development checking water and sewage connections for future houses (which is why the interview was moved until today).

So I was asked to call back and say whether I'm interested in the position or not by the end of the week. No, I wasn't offered the position. I guess I'll cross my fingers, call back tomorrow saying "yes" and hope they get back to me (very positively) soon. :-)

Oh, and despite the fact the interview wasn't much of an interview, I was there for more than an hour-and-a-half, and was given a tour of the building, pump server, and pumping facility behind the building. Interesting stuff.

I seem to be on a weekly posting schedule now :-P

Decided to put off on the Lego sets; instead I'm going to be saving up enough cash to go on a trip to North Carolina with Mike, Jon, et al.. That'll be more fun. Surf-frisbee while minnow dodging :-D

I feel honored by some friends: earlier this week I was asked by Chris and Viv to be one of the groomsman at their wedding. If you didn't hear, they're engaged now, planning to wed next fall-ish.

Got a phone call this morning from one of the companies I put a resume in with. They want to interview me! So on Monday morning I go in for it. It's cool, the company is based in Hamilton, and is about five minutes from the Kohl's I'm working at now :-P Have to see how that goes.

Not much else going on right now...

I keep forgetting to post this, it's an article I found in The Trentonian a couple of weeks ago at work. It's really short, but I'm hoping to see what others think of it...

DARTH MIGHT HANG IT UP -- So you're a big-shot actor, you're making millions -- hell, you're Darth Vader, for the love of Wookies --so what do you do?

Well, if you're anything like Hayden Christensen, you decide to become an architect.

"I don't find Hollywood interesting, so I'm thinking about studying architecture instead," Hayden told the London Sun. "A film is a product and as an actor you can only sell it if you sell yourself. You don't get to sit at the table before you're ready to give away your integrity. Maybe it works for Orlando Bloom. It doesn't work for me."

OK. Hayden is an idiot. Glad we cleared that up.

*raises one eyebrow*

So today I finally made it to the bank where I saw that girlie; it turns out that she's not someone I worked with at GA. In fact, she said she's never worked there. Oddly enough, I didn't feel at all awkward telling her why I asked. She apologized for not being someone I knew. Weird...

I have off from work until Wednesday night. *shrug* If anyone wants to do something, maybe we can work something out.

*blah* Not much else to say at the moment.
Airshow yesterday = mega cool.

I try to go to them every year, and while they can be a bit slow at first, it usually proves worth it later in the day when the good stuff starts up. For example, the combat maneuver demonstration by the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Heh, that was too cool, especially when he did a high-speed flyby of the flight line. Not top speed, mind you, because that's over Mach 2. High speed, around 650mph, probably about Mach .7-.8ish (I haven't actually looked up the speed of sound yet for comparison). If you thought fighers were loud normally, you simply have to hear one at high speeds, and not just take-off or landing speeds...

So, the day was nice. It started off around 930ish, when my friends Rob, Heather, and Phil arrived. Er, no, it started slightly earlier when Nick showed up. Then they arrived. I made a couple of calls, and found out Jon "wasn't" coming, and that Mike was on his way. Cool. Then Jon knocked on the door; the bastard lied :-P So now, the whole contingent that said they were coming was there: me, Nick, Rob, Heather & Phil, Jon, Mike, Rabbit, and another Phil (one of Rabbit's friends). It never ceases to amaze me, that in the right company, people with differences in attitudes that seem to have problems with one another can get along great, as though there's nothing wrong. Granted, it could be forced politeness for the sake of, in this case, me O:-)...

Anyway, so we walked out to the flight line. It was about three miles out there. We ended up getting there about 1115, just after the opening ceremony. (One of the Golden Knights, the Army Skydiving team, diving in with an American flag to the National Anthem). And thus began the day on the ramp. Started by moving toward the main entrance, which we somehow managed to bypass, and checked out the B-17. More specifically, the B-17 that played the Memphis Belle in the movie back from years ago. Such a beauty. From there we walked down the ramp checking out the various aircraft along the way. McGuire had a few of its aircraft on display, one each of the refuelers and cargo planes stationed here, including a retired cargo plane that'll be going on static display on base eventually. Fighters, trainers, Air Force, Navy, Marine, Army, and Coast Guard stuff were all there. We watched some aerial displays by a couple of older aircraft: a P-51 Mustang, and a mock bombing/resue mission of Vietnam era recon. and fighter/bomber. One of the cooler things was watching the Air Force Reserve jet-car racing a prop-job stunt plane. The jet car started off behind, but pulled ahead :-) The Golden Knights performed, skydiving "stunts" from 12,000 feet. One made his main-chute fail, and demonstrated ditching it and opening a reserve. Two others jumped out, split to about 1.5 miles apart, then zoomed in to each other about about 150mph each and crossed paths. I think it was a bit windy for them though: they usually do some stuff with chutes opened too, but not this time. Spent a good deal of time in the shade under the fuselage of a B-52. Usually that's what happens: you go, you walk around, then you find a spot under one of the larger aircraft and relax in the shade. Until the Blue Angels went on though. The joint Marine/Navy performance team of F/A-18 Hornets. They're such nice planes O:-) And their show kicked ass. I've been going to airshows forever, and they were doing some stuff I've never seen before, which made it all the more exciting. It figures that as we were getting ready to leave, as they were coming in for a landing, the nice breeze that had been there all day just died out. That's when we started feeling the heat. Except, passing behind the C-5, a cargo aircraft large enough to fit my house into it. They had powered up her turbines to start closing the hatches, and walking behind it the jetwash was coming out nice and cool, and with quite a breeze. But after leaving the flight line, it was hot, humid, and stagnant. And another three-ish miles back to my house. We ended up losing people on the way back, but rejoined at my house, and sat in the coolness of my basement cooling down and B.S.ing until I had to leave for work :-(

The monitor I was using finally crapped out. Er, not crapped out, but it doesn't reset itself when it screws up anymore. Unless I shut down and walk away for a while, and by a while I mean more than 20 minutes. Makes it difficult to do anything on my computer. Luckily, my parents have ordered a new one, which means I'll get my monitor back from my brother real soon-like.

Today concludes my work week; six days of working. Yes, I know it doesn't sound like it's much, but it's just been really annoying. Working five-to-eleven-ish just sucks; I can't make night plans or whatnot. :-\ Which is why I still haven't seen the new Star Wars movie yet. I've heard a lot about it, and luckily the people I talk to about it haven't spoiled the plot in any way. I have to say, at this point I think I'm looking forward to seeing the prototype of the Death Star. :-D Not to mention any and all of the action sequences, especially anything and everything lightsaber related. I'm planning on going to see it on Monday, and taking my brother with me. He wants to go see it, and it'll get him out of my parents' hair for a few hours.

McGuire Air Show

Is next weekend. I'm planning on going on Sunday. Anyone interested, look over my 18 April post (or close to that day) for all the details. IM, email, or reply to the threads here if you're interested in going, that way I can send you the directions to my house. If you've been to my house before, I need to send you alternate directions than the ones you have; with all the traffic, I'll be sending you via a route that doesn't pass in front of McGuire. :-D

Saw a face today, and spent the next hour-and-a-half trying to figure out where I've seen her before. It was at the bank at a WalMart; I was depositing/cashing my paycheck. I could've sworn the girl looked very familar, and even sounded like someone I know. Her name plate matched one of the girls I worked with when at Great Adventure. And worked with her for a couple of summers, not just a short time. Heh, next time I go to the WalMart I may try talking to her more if she's there...

Oooh, and back to the air show, I'm starting to get stoked. My family went out this morning to the store, and while there we were discussing how stuff on base has to close during practices of the Blue Angels and whatnot: they're in the "danger corridor" for where wreckage could hit a high concentration of people. Which reminded me, they'll be doing their practice runs on Friday, and maybe even Thursday. Hooray for fighters!! And I have Friday off, so I think I'm going to be sitting outside most of the day watching them, and watching various aircraft flying in for the show. :-D :-D :-D I am such a little kid when it comes to these things.
So yesterday was a bit depressing. I've realized just how futile my job-search seems at the moment. Out of all the places I've sent a resume to, the only one that responded was Picatinny. And we all know that didn't go so well. The job at Kohl's leaves me with cash to put away and the such, but it's just depressing knowing that I can do more.

My diploma came yesterday too. My parents are happy about that. A lot of good it's doing me at the moment though...

I've started taking to my gaming again; it's a nice help to try to relieve some stress, or whatever I may be feeling. Though, the monitor I'm using has a tendency to screw up. It was my brother's, and when it started acting odd I took it so he didn't have to deal with it. Now, I need to get a new monitor...

Got pulled over by a cop last night on the way home from work. Apparently I rolled through a stop sign. Real slow-like, but enough to catch his attention. It's odd: I don't remember the intersection, or the stop sign. I remember the road just before, and just after, so I may have rolled through. Or not. *shrug* Lucky for me, he let me off with a warning. For being honest with my record (being pulled over, but no tickets), I think it was. That, and he said he didn't feel like being the one to ruin my record. Benefit there.

I work today, have off tomorrow, then work the rest of next week. That means I won't be able to attend the Star Wars event that Steve is planning. Bummer. Moreso a bummer though, I won't be able to go to Kristine's party either. I was looking forward to it too. *sigh* I can only hope I have next Sunday off; Nick is planning a barbeque-esque get together...

Blah...
